Hello Friends!

This month I read a girl power book which made me want to take over the world! (Ok maybe not the world but you get it) It's Sheryl Sandberg's book Lean In. A lot of times I have a hard time getting through books that aren't novels but I really loved this book and made sure I finished it. As well as the entire Divergent series. But let's stay on topic here.

So Lean In is geared toward the working woman and helps put a lot of things into perspective. Sheryl shares stories from her life, supports you to apply for that job you feel like you won't get, speak your mind, have faith in yourself, ask for a raise and have a social life to boot. She is inspiring and I promise you are sure to take away something positive.

Here's one of my favorite lines: "Sharing emotions builds deeper relationships. Motivation comes from working on things we care about. It also comes from working with people we care about. To really care about others, we have to understand them-what they like and dislike, what they feel as well as think. Emotion drives both men and women and influences every decision we make. Recognizing the role emotions play and being willing to discuss them makes us better managers, partners and peers."

The DIY this month will lead into all my DIY's for next year! Christina my January 4th bride was trying to stay within a tight budget for her centerpieces and had shown me a few inspiration photo's. I quickly began to brainstorm and came up with the following:

  • Vase (I bought from AC Moore for $4 each)
  • Willow branches (I bought from AC Moore for $4 each-I bought 2 braches per centerpiece)
  • Holly berries (These were on sale for $1.50 a bunch. I used about 5 bunches for all 12 centerpieces)
  • Sugar
  • Glitter to give the sugar an extra sparkle

 Additional supplies

  • Spray adhesive or hot glue
  • Scissors

The most time intensive part is cutting all the berries off and gluing them onto the branches. But pour yourself a glass of wine and you'll be fine!

These simple and winter themed centerpieces came to about $13 each! How can you beat that?

For 2014, I've decided to give a twist to my Book & DIY. For DIY I'm going to stick specifically to centerpieces & for my book-you'll just have to wait and see!

Wishing everyone helath and love in 2014!
