This month I decided to do something a little different. I wanted to tie in both the book & the DIY project.

If you're a Jane Green fan like myself you will love April's Book. Her newest book is titled Family Pictures. It's an interesting story of how two women's lives are forever linked by the same man. It's a perfect example of how experience's in life are never black and white, there are always many shades of grey. Through obstacles you may discover unexpected friendships. Here's one of my favorite lines: "The woman looking back at me in the mirror is fresh, natural, approachable. She is soft and pretty. She is a woman you would want to talk to, would want to be friends with her. I would want to be friends with her. Not because she wields power but because she is real."

If you read the book you'll see how my DIY project of soy candles ties into the book :)

What did I use to make them?

  • Soy Wax
  • Candle Jars
  • Wicks
  • Fragrance Oil (I used lavender and vanilla)
  • A double boiler
  • A pencil

How much did it cost?

  • I bought everything off Amazon for about $50 with shipping, but I did buy enough to make 12 candles. So if you're looking for something interesting to do for Christmas presents or as favors this is a wonderful idea

How did I make them?

Step 1: Take your wick and tie a pencil around the tip to steady the wick in the center of the jar

Step 2: Get your double boiler heated and place the soy wax on top. Once the wax starts to melt add in as much fragrance as you want. A few drops should do it but it's completely up to you!

Step 3: After every piece is melted, pour the liquid into each jar. Make sure after all the liquid is in the jar the wick is still centered.

Step 4: Let them cool over night, cut the wick to the appropriate height and you're done!

Love these!
