Hello All,

This month I strayed from Gretchen’s March month to “Aim Higher” and focused mostly on my personal health. In January I focused on recharging my batteries, February I focused on adding a bit more love and this month I focused on adding more healthy aspects into my life.

For everyone that knows me I love food that’s not healthy or good in any way for you. My daily diets consist of pizza, cheese fries, penne and vodka, caramel latte’s, wine and my favorite, Chinese food. In March (and for the rest of the year) I’m trying to not completely change my diet but significantly alter it.

Eating Better

I started actively counting my calorie intake. Not in a crazy way, trust me I was still ordering Chinese food, I just wasn’t ordering that side of fried dumplings to go with my beef and broccoli and egg roll. I started incorporating small things like switching my Starbucks Vanilla Latte’s to skinny Latte’s . I discovered these delicious veggie straws for snacking and tried to eat smaller meals throughout the entire day. It’s interesting, when you know how many calories something is, it tends to stay in your mind and you’ll find yourself making better eating decisions. Here are a few things that will now be staples in my diet moving forward.

  • Special K Breakfast Sandwiches
  • Sensible Portions Garden Veggie Straws
  • Lean Cuisine Culinary Collections

Lay off the Booze

Ok, don’t get me wrong, I am in no way an alcoholic. However, I do love wine. There is nothing I love more than a good bottle of red on a cold winter night. There’s always something going on during the week that calls for a glass of wine such as meeting friends at a BYO, industry event mixers and just your plain old relaxing glass of wine at the end of a long day. This month I tried not to drink wine Monday-Friday. Was it successful every week? No, but it was very effective and did make a difference in weight loss and overall feeling better in the mornings.

Get Moving

I’m an avid walker; all the towns I’ve ever lived were “walking towns”.  From Montclair to Weehawken to Hoboken and now Summit. They are all different in their own way but enabled me to walk down the street to get what I needed.  This month I tried to walk even more than I already did. I started tracking my steps (10,000 was the reach goal per day).  Walking is a great way to clear your mind. So the next time you decide to jump in the car to go somewhere, think first? Is it walkable? Most places are depending on how much time you have :)

So that was my month of March in a nutshell. And at the end I lost 7 pounds! Just in time for my trip to Arizona!
